This song was composed and rellased in 1984 by Suzanne Vega. It was one of the first songs to talk about the issue of child abuse and domestic violence. It has a lot of repercussion in the USA, reaching the third position in the Billbered Hot 100 and it was nominated at the Grammy’s Awards in 1988.

 

Personally, I like it very much because it talks about child abuse, a theme which it is not as frequent as gender violence and it is very important too. What you can imagine is very different from the reality and when you watch the videoclip, you really realize how hard it is to be in such situation.

Apart from admiring the singer because of her voice and her talent, I admire her because of the courage to write a song about such a dedicated theme.
